PPE REQUIRED
PRE-START CHECKS
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as listed above
- Ensure all personnel are trained and competent to perform the task at hand
- Ensure personnel are fit for duty
- Ensure truck is clean and fully stocked with tools and supplies.
- Conduct a trip inspection according to the NSC Standard 13 Pt. 2 Schedule 1 (See 1001-SWP-T.INSP)
COLD WEATHER PRE-START CHECKS (less than °0)
- Ensure valves are wrapped
- Allow the hydraulics and vacuum pump to initially run at a reduced speed. Normal operating speed vacuum pump is 1,000 RPM.
- If loading from a body of water, never park on the ice
- Ensure the ice is suitable frozen if you need to walk on it
- Stay on solid ground whenever possible
SAFE WORK PROCEDURE – FILL TRUCKS WATER TANK
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as listed above
- Do a walk around of the truck to ensure there are no leaks, everything is in good visual condition
- Connect hose to the fill station
- Open the valves
- Enter appropriate code
- Allow tank to fill
- Ensure appropriate allowances are made when the tank is full
- Close valves
- Disconnect hose
SAFE WORK PROCEDURE
- Start the engine and allow all systems to warm up.
- Do a walk around of the truck to ensure there are no leaks, everything is in good visual condition, and you are clear of anything that would interfere with the operation of your unit such as a tree branches, overhead powerlines or overhead doors.
- Always drive to road conditions and follow all traffic laws.
- Always use a spotter when required to back up.
- When arriving at the job site, position the truck appropriately and set any required safety signals or barriers.
- Do not enter customer buildings with vacuum truck. Do not back up to air exchangers or intakes
- Perform tasks as dispatched.
SAFE WORK PROCEDURE - DISINFECT TRUCK TANK

When to Clean and Disinfect Tanks and Equipment
- Be sure to clean and disinfect your tanks:
- At least twice per year.
- any time you know the tank or equipment has been contaminated.
- Drain the water from the tank.
- Wash inside surfaces of the tank by means if a high-pressure hose (i.e. steam).
- Drain water from the bottom of the tank to waste.
- Rinse inside surfaces of the tank with potable water and drain to waste.
- Disinfect the inside surfaces/attachments of tank, outlets and equipment as follows:
- Fill the tank with potable water.
- Add 8 Litres of household bleach to every 1000 gallons of water and mix well to ensure all surfaces come into contact with disinfecting solutions (i.e. 100ppm chlorine).
- Run water from the tank to hoses until the smell of chlorine is detected in the water.
- Close off water hoses and let the chlorine sit in the water tank and hose systems for a minimum of 20 minutes contact time.
- Drain tank and hose systems to waste taking precautions not to contaminate disinfected components.
- Document the tank has been disinfected
SAFE WORK PROCEDURE - COLLECT WATER SAMPLE (QUARTERLY)
- Get a water sample bottle & form from safety office
- Open valve and allow to free flow for a brief moment
- Place bottle under stream, fill to 2/3 full
- Fill out the form carefully and properly
- Sample goes to the AHS Office. (see safety)
POST-JOB PROCEDURE
- Perform a visual inspection of truck and job site for any damage or signs of wear, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Properly clean and stow hoses, tools and any other equipment used.
- Disengage the PTO and vacuum systems, ensuring the vehicle is ready for normal driving.
- Document the completed job, recording volume of materials collected/purged,
- Record any issues if necessary.
- Complete a final walk around before leaving site.

COLD WEATHER POST-JOB PROCEDURE (less than °0)
- Remove hoses put on caps
- Idle truck down
- With vac on suck position open up and flush diesel
- Put vac in neutral
- Shut pump off
- Turn PTO off.
END OF DAY PROCEDURE
- Fill trucks fuel tank
- Ensure truck is clean and fully stocked with tools and supplies.
- Conduct a trip inspection according to the NSC Std 13 Pt. 2 Schedule 1 (See 1001-SWP-T.INSP)
- Complete all required paperwork from the day, close out driver log.
- Ensure valves are open, use a drip bucket if needed
- Empty air brakes
